Who we were
Founded in 1978 by Peter Powers and two partners Geo. Powers Construction, Inc was originally named CPG Building Associates. Over the decades the company evolved into an employee-based general contractor specializing in carpentry, masonry and ironwork with particular skill sets in diagnosing and fixing: structural problems in old buildings, correcting aesthetic ‘remuddling’ in old buildings and upgrading outdated infrastructure while meticulously maintaining the historic integrity of the building.

Who we are today:

Who is ‘we’:
Pete does the work. Rosemary Markert, Pete’s wife of 40 years, runs the office
Who is George?
Peter’s grandfather, George Powers, a quarry man, immigrated from Ireland in the early 1900s. He built a business barging bluestone down the Hudson to Oyster Bay, New York. George Powers brought a tarmac plant from France. It was the first one in the United States. George paved the length of Jericho Turnpike on Long Island – the first time it had been paved - in the 1920s.
